Commerce Public Schools Teacher of the Year

Jason Dunn has been selected Commerce Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year. Mr. Dunn teaches Band, Choir, Humanities, and Current Events. He received his Bachelor’s in Music Education Degree from Pittsburg State University. Mr. Dunn has taught for twenty-two years, twenty-one of them at Commerce. Mr. Dunn is a member of Commerce Association of Classroom Teachers (Building Representative for Commerce High School), Oklahoma Music Education Association, National Education Association, and National Band Directors Association.

The Commerce School District is fortunate to have a teacher of Mr. Dunn’s caliber. He is a special person that teaches music in a rural school district single handedly. He advocates for his students and supports them. He instills a love and appreciation for music, art, and local history in his students.

Mr. Dunn is now eligible to apply for the 2022 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. The announcement of the 2022 Teacher of the Year will take place in February of 2022.

A reception will be held to honor Mr. Dunn, along with Alexander Elementary Schools’ Teacher of the Year, Erin Ogle, and Commerce Middle Schools’ Teacher of the Year, Melissa Stebbins, on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. in the Board of Education Building, 217 Commerce Street in Commerce.
