Summer Workouts

COMMERCE PUBLIC SCHOOLS PHASE-IN TO SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Commerce Public Schools will return to activities with restrictions for students entering grades 6-12 as of June 1, 2020.  In order to insure the safety of all, the following mandates will be in place.  Commerce Public Schools are expected to comply 100% with each item outlined in this Phase-In to Commerce Public Schools Phase in to School Activities document.  The situation surrounding COVID-19 is fluid and adjustments may need to be made.

Monday Through Thursday 6th-12th Grade (Students Entering 6th Grade will need a physical prior to participation)

Girls 9am -11am

Boys 10am-12pm

Athletes please report to back doors for instruction on check-in procedure.

During each phase each person, each day of attendance in each activity must complete a COVID-19 Sign-In form.  Vulnerable individuals should not oversee or participate in any workouts during any phase.

—JUNE 1, 2020 THROUGH JUNE 26, 2020

On June 1, 2020 Commerce Public School coaches may have face-to-face contact with secondary level students using the provisions provided below.  No practice, or activity specific instruction may be given.  No camps, clinics, or leagues may be conducted.  Strength and conditioning is permitted.

INDOORS

GYM/WEIGHT ROOM

  • Each person entering the facility must have their temperature checked upon arrival. Any individual with a temperature registering 100.4 degrees or above must not be permitted to stay

  • Hands must be washed or hand sanitizer used prior to entering the facility and before beginning any drills or handling of equipment

  • Locker rooms are closed and restrooms must be sanitized before use and at the conclusion of the workout

  • Each person must use good judgement concerning social distancing

  • No shared hydrating bottles, towels, gloves, or any other personal equipment is permitted

  • Students MUST bring their own water bottles and no sharing allowed.

  • Hands must be washed or hand sanitizer used periodically.

  • Any equipment used including weights, balls, bats, helmets, etc. must be disinfected before and after use

  • No scrimmaging or one-on-one allowed

  • Student athletes, coaches or other supervisory adults are encouraged to wear a mask or cloth face covering, especially when in close proximity to others

OUTDOORS

  • No shared hydrating bottles, towels, gloves, or any other personal equipment is permitted

  • Any equipment used including weights, balls, bats, helmets, etc. must be disinfected before and after use

  • Student athletes, coaches or other supervisory adults are encouraged to wear a mask or cloth face covering, especially when in close proximity to others

--JUNE 27, 2020 THROUGH JULY 5, 2020-- 

Summertime Dead Period - No coaching, training, or instructing.

SPECIAL NOTE:  ON JULY 15, 2020 - Unrestricted practice may begin for fast-pitch, fall baseball, volleyball, cross country and marching band.

 

These guidelines are subject to change.  On June 9th, the OSSAA will have a board meeting that could change guidelines from that point forward.  Also, local decisions could change as we proceed.  We will revisit these restrictions as we progress through the months of June and July.

Q and A:

  1. Question:  Can non-school teams participate in camps or clinics or play in leagues at Commerce Public School facilities?

Answer:   No, Commerce Public School facilities may not be used for any camps, clinics or leagues.  Commerce student athletes will not be participating in camps/clinics at our school or at other schools.

  1. Question:  Are non-athletic activities included in these restrictions?

Answer:  Yes, all activities are included in the restrictions, including band and color guard.

  1. Question:  Does screening need to occur each day for each activity?

Answer:  Yes, each person must be screened for COVID-19 prior to participation in each activity, each day during each phase of the plan.

  1. Question:  If a person is sent home due to a yes answer on the screening form, can that person return later in the day?

Answer:  No, a person sent home may not be permitted to return the same day.

  1. Question:  Does a participant need a physical prior to participation?

Answer:   No, if the participant had a physical after May1, 2019.  A new physical is not required until the first practice of any activity for the new school year.  (Fall activity participants must have a physical on file before July 15)

  1. Question:  Can a bandana be used as a face covering?

Answer:  Yes, a mask, bandana or any cloth face covering may be used.

  1. Question:  Can fall activities such as fast-pitch, fall baseball, cross country, volleyball and marching band begin unrestricted practice on July 15?

Answer:  Yes, fall activities with the exception of football may begin unrestricted practice on July 15.
